Altoids
began as a popular brand of breath mints that were created around the turn of
the 19th century. Altoids mints are produced in Great Britain and
distributed in the US by Kraft Foods International. Altoids gum is produced
in Italy and distributed by Callard & Bowser-Suchard, Inc. for Kraft Food
International. The
Altoids recipe itself actually dates back to the reign of King George III.
The original mint was an instant hit among the Royal Family for its
distinctive strong flavor. It wasn’t until the early 1800s that the Public
was first introduced to Altoids… these delicious sugar-free mints were
advertised then just as they are today “The Original Celebrated Curiously
Strong Peppermint.” Altoids
were originally shipped in cardboard boxes in the 1800’s… But in the 1920’s
Altoids began to be sold in small tin boxes… These small tins were sold to
the Public in a variety of styles, colors, and designs which ultimately lead
to the Tins becoming collectors’ items over the last five decades. In recent
years, sales of Altoids have increased dramatically mostly because of wider
distribution coupled with Kraft’s aggressive advertising campaigns. Altoids
are currently a staple product in most grocery, convenience, and
bulk-wholesale outlets across the World. Only recently has Altoids become
available in the vending market through an exclusive contract with Kraft
Foods International through Candy King of America. We, Driftwood Vendors, LLC,
are proud to represent them in the Austin and San Antonio Metroplex areas. |
